# Virals: Journalist claims Nat Phillips is ‘still on the agenda’ at West Ham

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2022/01/14/virals-west-ham-race-to-sign-palmeiras-starlet-danilo/) reportedly still have Liverpool centre-back [Nat Phillips](https://readwestham.com/2021/12/15/virals-west-ham-set-to-push-ahead-with-nat-phillips-pursuit/) ‘on the agenda’ during the January transfer window.

The Hammers are believed to be [desperately seeking defensive reinforcements](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10301443/West-Ham-want-Nat-Phillips-Liverpool-let-10m-defender-leave-permanent-deal.html) in the face of injuries to Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna with the Englishman a leading target.

Despite a seemingly [imminent return](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-transfers-kurt-zouma-david-moyes-b976134.html) of the Frenchman and Phillips’ current injury problem, the Irons may seek a deal for the 24-year-old.

That’s according to journalist Dean Jones when speaking to [Give Me Sport](https://www.givemesport.com/1818253-west-ham-transfer-news-hammers-make-contact-with-pl-rivals-over-15m-monster).

> I think that they’ve (West Ham) already touched base about the value of that deal, and I think that they need to negotiate with Liverpool further if that one’s going to have a breakthrough, but that’s still on the agenda.

This season Phillips has made [four appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nathaniel-phillips/leistungsdaten/spieler/371814) across all competitions and is currently sidelined with a fractured cheekbone suffered against AC Milan.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Albeit likely to return at a similar time as Zouma, signing the [former VfB Stuttgart loanee](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nathaniel-phillips/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/371814) would have added long and short term value to David Moyes’ squad.

Both Craig Dawson and Ogbonna are beyond 30 and will eventually need replacing, [styllistically](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/381527/Show/Nathaniel-Phillips) few fit the bill more suitably than the Liverpool man.

With an asking price [reported](https://www.google.com/search?q=nat+phillips+asking+price&rlz=1C1CHBF_en-GBGB885GB885&oq=nat+phillips+asking+price&aqs=chrome.0.69i59.4319j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8) to be between £12-15million, West Ham will struggle to find another player so young with top-flight and European experience for such a fee.

No-nonsense and already showing signs of rapid improvement, the East London club would be wise to land the [£7.2million valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nathaniel-phillips/marktwertverlauf/spieler/371814) ace.
