# Virals: West Ham goalkeeper Darren Randolph set for EPL loan switch

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2022/01/10/virals-efl-club-in-advanced-talks-to-sign-west-ham-ace-conor-coventry/) goalkeeper [Darren Randolph](https://readwestham.com/2021/08/16/darren-randolph-hints-at-possible-jesse-lingard-signing/) is reportedly set to join Aston Villa on loan until the end of the season.

The Hammers are believed to be willing to see the 34-year-old head to the Midlands to become the understudy to [Emi Martinez](https://www.givemesport.com/1816503-aston-villa-transfer-news-they-like-him-villa-admire-225m-champions-league-winner).

Third-choice at the London Stadium following the summer arrival of PSG stopper Alphonse Areola, Randolph is [yet to make a single appearance](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/darren-randolph/leistungsdaten/spieler/51321) this season.

According to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/alex_crook/status/1480510349954760706?s=20), the Republic of Ireland international is heading for Villa Park.

One interesting plot twist could be the Irons’ [reported interest](https://www.teamtalk.com/west-ham-united/versatile-psg-abdou-diallo-transfer-lined-up-problem-solver) in PSG full-back Abdou Diallo.

Were the East London club to pursue a deal for the 25-year-old, the deal for Areola would either need to be terminated or made into a permanent due to [Premier League rules](https://www.premierleague.com/news/464747#:~:text=%2D%20Premier%20League%20clubs%20may%20not,club%20at%20any%20one%20time.) not permitting two players on loan from the same club.

Under contract until 2023 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/darren-randolph/profil/spieler/51321)), loaning Randolph out at this stage could be a stepping stone to a permanent move in the summer.

Signed from Middlesbrough in 2020 for £4million ([The Guardian](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/jan/06/west-ham-agree-to-sign-darren-randolph-from-middlesbrough-for-4m-gedson-fernandes)), the Bray-born stopper has made [52 outings](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/darren-randolph/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/51321) as an Iron.

Should this deal be completed as expected, Hammers fans will hope it triggers moves elsewhere in the market.
