# Virals: West Ham ‘very interested’ in AS Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2022/01/10/stephen-warnock-pinpoints-big-problem-for-jarrod-bowens-england-hopes/) are reported to be ‘very interested’ in AS Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile.

The Hammers are believed to be keen on the 20-year-old and [David Moyes](https://readwestham.com/2021/12/23/stuart-pearce-discusses-potential-january-transfer-business/) could make a move during the January transfer window.

However, there is likely to be fierce competition from newly-rich [Premier League](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) rivals Newcastle United.

That’s according to a report from French outlet [Foot Mercato](https://www.footmercato.net/a405346031473370966-west-ham-et-newcastle-lorgnent-benoit-badiashile), as cited by [West Ham News & Views](https://twitter.com/WestHamViews_) on Twitter.

The report claims that the Irons have ‘contacted the entourage’ of the [nine-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/benoit-badiashile/nationalmannschaft/spieler/463603/verein_id/9323) France Under 21 international who is at the ‘top of the shortlist’ in East London.

This season the man once [wanted by Real Madrid](https://www.football-espana.net/2020/08/30/real-madrid-target-benoit-badiashile-remaining-at-as-monaco-until-2021) has earned a [6.78 average Sofascore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/benoit-badiashile/904827) from 12 Ligue 1 outings.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £25.2million and under contract in France until 2024 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/benoit-badiashile/marktwertverlauf/spieler/463603)), it would likely take in excess of the [£29.8million fee](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11685/12391116/kurt-zouma-west-ham-sign-france-international-defender-from-chelsea-on-four-year-deal) paid for Kurt Zouma to land the starlet.

Despite the lofty cost, Badiashile has already amassed [105 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/benoit-badiashile/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/463603) at the senior level and would therefore provide an immediate solution for David Moyes as well as being a star of the future.

Strong in the air and an [adept ball-player](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/365406/Show/Beno%C3%AEt-Badiashile), it’s clear to see why the Frenchman is hot property and West Ham would be wise to act fast on this deal.
