# Virals: West Ham ‘following’ Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2022/01/10/stephen-warnock-pinpoints-big-problem-for-jarrod-bowens-england-hopes/) are reportedly ‘following’ ACF Fiorentina central defender [Nikola Milenkovic](https://readwestham.com/2021/12/09/virals-west-ham-may-reignite-nikola-milenkovic-chase/).

The Hammers were [heavily linked](https://www.teamtalk.com/west-ham-united/nikola-milenkovic-transfer-likely-key-reason-giving-hammers-hope) with a move for the 24-year-old in the summer but the deal failed to materialise.

Instead, the Serbia international [extended a contract](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nikola-milenkovic/profil/spieler/413507) in Florence until 2023 and has remained a key player for La Viola.

According to a report from [Tuttomercatoweb](https://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/serie-a/tmw-fiorentina-atletico-madrid-alla-finestra-per-milenkovic-sfida-alle-big-inglesi-per-l-estate-1631038), as cited by [Sport Witness](https://twitter.com/Sport_Witness) on Twitter, the Irons remain interested in the defender.

The report claims that West Ham were ‘very close’ to landing the [32-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nikola-milenkovic/nationalmannschaft/spieler/413507/verein_id/3438) ace and are still ‘following’ with interest.

This season Milenkovic has [scored twice in 18 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nikola-milenkovic/leistungsdaten/spieler/413507) and earned a [7.14 Sofascore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/nikola-milenkovic/836168) from 16 Serie A outings.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £20.7million ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nikola-milenkovic/marktwertverlauf/spieler/413507)), signing the Serbian for anything less than market value would be a huge coup for the Hammers.

[Strong aerially](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/319785/Show/Nikola-Milenkovic) and an experienced operator at the top level, Milenkovic would be a high-quality acquisition.

Albeit unlikely to be a deal that could happen this window, David Moyes should be attentive to each and every possibility.
