# Virals: West Ham ‘leading the race’ to sign Marseille forward Bamba Dieng

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2022/01/07/virals-west-ham-tipped-to-enquire-over-epl-defensive-duo/) are reportedly ‘leading the race’ to sign Olympique de Marseille forward [Bamba Dieng](https://readwestham.com/2022/01/05/virals-west-ham-keen-on-marseille-striker-bamba-dieng/).

The 21-year-old has recently been linked with a move away from the [high-flying Ligue 1 club](https://www.skysports.com/ligue-1-table) and the Hammers appear to be the leading chasers.

That’s according to a report from [The Mirror](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/) (January 5th, page 53), as cited by [West Ham News & Views](https://twitter.com/WestHamViews_) on Twitter.

Also wanted by Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Newcastle United, Dieng is believed to be available for around £15million according to a report from French outlet [La Provence](https://www.laprovence.com/actu/en-direct/6618313/mercato-om-dieng-plait-a-newcastle.html).

This season the [four-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bamba-dieng/nationalmannschaft/spieler/822458/verein_id/3499) Senegal ace has [scored four times and provided one assist](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bamba-dieng/leistungsdaten/spieler/822458) in 14 French top-flight league appearances.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £7.2million and under contract in France until 2024 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bamba-dieng/marktwertverlauf/spieler/822458)), signing Dieng for the mooted £15million would represent smart value for money.

Albeit relatively inexperienced at the elite level still, the versatile forward has already netted an [impressive brace against AS Monaco](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/as-monaco_olympique-marseille/index/spielbericht/3588845) to show his potential.

Predominantly operating as a central striker, the man involved in the Africa Cup of Nations for Senegal [can play from either wing](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bamba-dieng/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/822458) and would offer David Moyes more attacking solutions than simply supporting Michail Antonio.
