# Virals: West Ham loan offer for Gabriel Barbosa rejected as ‘absurd’

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2022/01/05/alan-hutton-urges-west-ham-to-take-transfer-risk-on-adama-traore/) have reportedly seen a loan offer for Flamengo striker [Gabriel Barbosa](https://readwestham.com/2022/01/04/virals-west-ham-have-held-talks-over-signing-flamengo-star-gabriel-barbosa/) rejected.

The Hammers are believed to be [pursuing a deal](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11685/12508492/gabriel-barbosa-west-ham-hold-talks-over-signing-flamengo-striker-nicknamed-gabigol) for the 25-year-old in the January window and could return with an improved offer.

However, according to a report from [UOL](https://www.uol.com.br/esporte/futebol/colunas/perrone/2022/01/05/entorno-de-gabigol-ve-incerteza-sobre-nova-investida-do-west-ham.htm), as cited by [https://twitter.com/Sport_Witness](https://twitter.com/Sport_Witness)[Sport Witness](https://twitter.com/Sport_Witness) on Twitter, the Irons’ initial bid was promptly rebuffed and branded as ‘absurd’ in passing.

The report claims that West Ham tried to sign the [17-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gabriel-barbosa/nationalmannschaft/spieler/244275/verein_id/3439) Brazil ace on loan until the summer of 2023 whilst paying a €6million (£5million) fee.

During the 2020/21 season, the man known simply as Gabigol [scored 29 times and provided nine assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gabriel-barbosa/leistungsdaten/spieler/244275/plus/0?saison=2020) in 43 appearances for the Brazilian top-flight club.

Valued at £23.4million and under contract until 2024 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gabriel-barbosa/marktwertverlauf/spieler/244275)), it’s perhaps of little surprise the initial low ball offer was rejected.

Now there is said to be ‘uncertainty’ as to whether the East Londoners will return with an improved offer for the [ex-Inter Milan](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gabriel-barbosa/transfers/spieler/244275) man.

A [lethal finisher](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/130886/Show/Gabi) with experience of playing in Europe, West Ham won’t find many better options during this transfer window and should go all out for Barbosa up to a point.

Either on loan or as a permanent arrival, the Brazilian has the [track record](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gabriel-barbosa/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/244275) to excite supporters and potentially light up the Premier League.
