# Virals: West Ham ‘enter talks’ for Everton left-back Lucas Digne

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2022/01/06/virals-west-ham-loan-offer-for-gabriel-barbosa-rejected-as-absurd/) have reportedly ‘entered race to sign’ Everton left-back [Lucas Digne](https://readwestham.com/2022/01/04/virals-west-ham-have-everton-full-back-lucas-digne-under-consideration/) this month.

The 28-year-old is on the radar of both Chelsea and Newcastle United having seemingly [fallen out of favour](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/lucas-digne-rafa-benitez-everton-22633518) at Goodison Park.

Now, the Irons’ are said to have joined the pursuit for the Frenchman with mooted [£100,000 a week](https://www.spotrac.com/epl/everton-fc/lucas-digne-27887/#:~:text=Lucas%20Digne%20signed%20a%204,cap%20hit%20of%20%C2%A36%2C188%2C000.) wages a suggested stumbling block.

That’s according to a report from the [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10373143/Transfer-news-West-Ham-enter-talks-Everton-left-Lucas-Digne.html), as cited by [Transfer News Live](https://twitter.com/DeadlineDayLive) on Twitter.

The report claims that the Hammers are ‘continuing discussions’ and will ‘enter talks’ to sign the [43-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lucas-digne/nationalmannschaft/spieler/126664/verein_id/3377) France ace.

This season Digne has [scored once in 15 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lucas-digne/leistungsdaten/spieler/126664) across all competitions – earning a [6.92 Sofascore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/lucas-digne/96538) in 13 Premier League outings.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £27million and under contract on Merseyside until 2025 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lucas-digne/marktwertverlauf/spieler/126664)), signing the former Barcelona man for the suggested £30million fee would be regarded as smart business.

However, only four years younger than Aaron Cresswell and at present being [comfortably outperformed](https://www.sofascore.com/player/aaron-cresswell/43443) by the Iron, spending big on Digne mightn’t be the wisest move.

Instead, David Moyes should be looking for a [younger option](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) who can ably cover in the short term and act as a long term successor.
