# Virals: West Ham ‘keen’ on Marseille striker Bamba Dieng

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2022/01/05/pundit-names-two-west-ham-stars-in-epl-team-of-the-week/) are reportedly ‘keen’ on signing Olympique de Marseille striker Bamba Dieng.

The Hammers are believed to be leading the chase for the 21-year-old ahead of interest from [Premier League](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) rivals Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Newcastle United.

Dieng has enjoyed a [rapid rise to prominence](https://www.sofascore.com/player/ahmadou-bamba-dieng/1102503) following a move from Diambars FC in his native Senegal.

Now according to a report from the [Daily Mirror (print edition page 53, January 5)](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/), the Irons are looking at bringing the forward to England.

The report claims that West Ham have been ‘alerted’ to the [four-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bamba-dieng/nationalmannschaft/spieler/822458/verein_id/3499) Senegal ace whilst likening the Marseille man to compatriot and Liverpool star Sadio Mane.

So far this season Dieng has [scored four times and provided one assist](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bamba-dieng/leistungsdaten/spieler/822458) in 14 Ligue 1 appearances – including a [stunning strike](https://twitter.com/Vincent_1393/status/1476350218920734724) against Strasbourg.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £7.2million and under contract in France until 2024 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bamba-dieng/marktwertverlauf/spieler/822458)), signing the versatile attacker would be a difficult venture in the mid-season window.

Predominately operating as a central striker, Dieng can also [play on either wing](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bamba-dieng/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/822458) and would therefore have plenty to offer David Moyes’ squad.

Called up for international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations, Hammers fans can keep a close eye on their latest target when [Senegal face Zimbabwe](https://www.skysports.com/africa-cup-of-nations-fixtures) on Monday.
