# Virals: West Ham ‘interested’ in Barcelona forward Memphis Depay

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2022/01/05/pundit-names-two-west-ham-stars-in-epl-team-of-the-week/) are reportedly ‘interested’ in a sensational deal for Barcelona striker Memphis Depay.

The 27-year-old has been out of favour under new manager Xavi and could fall further down the pecking order following the [arrival of Ferran Torres](https://www.google.com/search?q=barcelona+sign+ferran+torres&rlz=1C1CHBF_en-GBGB885GB885&oq=barcelona+sign+ferran+torres&aqs=chrome.0.0i512j69i57.4088j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8) from Manchester City.

Irons’ boss David Moyes is expected to strengthen the [attacking ranks](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) at the London Stadium this month and could turn to Depay in order to do so.

That’s according to a report from Spanish outlet [El Nacional](https://www.elnacional.cat/ca/esports/la-relacio-amb-xavi-hernandez-va-a-pitjor-i-malgrat-ser-titular-vol-forcar-la-seva-sortida-del-b_690395_102.html) suggesting that the Hammers want to rekindle their interest in the Dutchman.

The report claims that Xavi is ‘not a fan’ of the [75-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/memphis-depay/nationalmannschaft/spieler/167850/verein_id/3379) Holland star and tips either West Ham or Newcastle United to ‘launch’ a transfer attempt.

So far this season Depay – once hailed as [‘one of the best’](https://barcauniversal.com/riqui-puig-sings-in-praise-of-memphis-depay-hes-one-of-the-best/) in Europe by Riqui Puig – has [scored eight times and provided two assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/memphis-depay/leistungsdaten/spieler/167850) in 15 La Liga outings.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £40.5million and under contract at Camp Nou until 2023 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/memphis-depay/marktwertverlauf/spieler/167850)), signing the ex-Manchester United man for the mooted £42million fee would remain smart business.

Capable of playing across the frontline and with [vast experience](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/memphis-depay/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/167850) at the very highest level, Depay is an opportunity West Ham would be crazy to overlook.

Boasting a [wide range](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/110154/Show/Memphis-Depay) of exciting attacking attributes, Moyes would surely relish the chance to add such a high calibre operator to the ranks.
