# Virals: West Ham have ‘held talks’ over signing Flamengo star Gabriel Barbosa

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2022/01/04/virals-west-ham-readying-formal-offer-for-fc-basel-star-arthur-cabral/) have reportedly ‘held talks’ regarding the possible arrival of Flamengo striker [Gabriel Barbosa](https://readwestham.com/2021/12/22/virals-west-ham-considering-loan-swoop-for-gabriel-barbosa/).

The 25-year-old has been [linked with a move](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/gabriel-barbosa-gabigol-west-ham-24637623) to the Hammers previously and could provide the answer as David Moyes looks to find support for Michail Antonio.

Barbosa, commonly known as [‘Gabigol’](https://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/12508767/who-is-west-ham-target-gabigol) is believed to be keen on a move to the London Stadium and has been ‘impressed’ with the Irons.

That’s according to a report from [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/12040/12508492/gabriel-barbosa-west-ham-hold-talks-over-signing-flamengo-striker-nicknamed-gabigol), as cited by [Sky Sports News](https://twitter.com/SkySportsNews) on Twitter.

The report claims that the [17-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gabriel-barbosa/nationalmannschaft/spieler/244275/verein_id/3439) Brazil ace is among a number of options West Ham are ‘looking at’ during the January transfer window.

During the 2020/21 campaign, Barbosa [scored 29 times and provided another nine assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gabriel-barbosa/leistungsdaten/spieler/244275/plus/0?saison=2020) in 43 appearances across all competitions.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £23.4million and under contract in Brazil until 2024 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gabriel-barbosa/marktwertverlauf/spieler/244275)), signing the former Inter Milan star ahead of a reported three other Premier League clubs would be a superb capture.

Already a [proven goalscorer](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gabriel-barbosa/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/244275) at an impressive rate, Barbosa would return to Europe with a point to prove.

[Physically strong](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/130886/Show/Gabi) and a clinical finisher, Moyes’ interest should come as little surprise and a move would seem to make plenty of sense.
