# Virals: West Ham interested in Napoli star Lorenzo Insigne

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/12/29/virals-epl-clubs-establish-contact-with-west-ham-over-issa-diop-move/) have reportedly ‘probed’ the representatives of Napoli star [Lorenzo Insigne](https://readwestham.com/2021/12/03/virals-west-ham-exploring-the-option-of-napoli-forward-lorenzo-insigne/).

The Hammers have been [linked](https://www.calciomercato.it/2021/11/30/calciomercato-inter-napoli-insigne-accordo-rinnovo-conte/)with the 30-year-old alongside interest from Newcastle United and MLS side Toronto FC.

Despite seemingly [nearing a move](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10350851/Napolis-Lorenzo-Insigne-agrees-join-Toronto-FC-summer.html) to the Canadian club, Insigne’s future beyond the end of this season remains in the balance.

According to a report from [Corriere della Sera](https://www.corriere.it/) (via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/newcastle-west-ham-probed-agent-free-transfer-need-offer-money/)), as cited by [West Ham News & Views](https://twitter.com/WestHamViews_) on Twitter, West Ham could still strike for the Italian.

The report claims that West Ham have been among the suitors for the [53-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lorenzo-insigne/nationalmannschaft/spieler/133964/verein_id/3376) ace but failed to meet the ‘much higher’ salary demands required.

So far this season Insigne has [scored five times and provided six assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lorenzo-insigne/leistungsdaten/spieler/133964) in 18 appearances across all competitions – taking the diminutive forward to an astonishing [114 goals and 91 assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lorenzo-insigne/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/133964) in 415 outings for the Naples club.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £31.5million and out of contract next summer ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lorenzo-insigne/marktwertverlauf/spieler/133964)) opportunities to sign a player of this quality for free do not come around often.

However, free agents often mean high wages and the club should be reticent about [breaking the bank](https://www.spotrac.com/epl/west-ham-united-fc/payroll/) for a player who will be 31 by the start of the 2022/23 campaign.

Albeit the Italian has [all the attributes](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/83390/Show/Lorenzo-Insigne) to be an unmitigatng success at the London Stadium, this could be a deal best watched for the Hammers.
