# Virals: West Ham facing ‘questions’ over future of Alphonse Areola

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/12/27/virals-west-ham-retain-an-interest-in-marseille-ace-duje-caleta-car/) could reportedly be set to face ‘questions’ regarding the future of on-loan goalkeeper [Alphonse Areola](https://readwestham.com/2021/10/28/virals-tweet-highlights-alphonse-areolas-unbeatable-record/).

The 28-year-old arrived at the London Stadium on a [season-long loan deal](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/july/29-july/west-ham-united-sign-world-cup-winning-goalkeeper-alphonse-areola) but is yet to make a single Premier League appearance.

Instead, the [World Cup winner](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alphonse-areola/erfolge/spieler/120629) has been reserved for Carabao Cup and Europa League outings whilst Lukasz Fabianski retains the gloves in the league.

Now, according to a report from reputable French newspaper [L’Equipe](https://lequipe.fr/) (via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/question-future-will-quickly-arise-west-ham-player-heading-exit-wants-wc-chance/)), as cited by [Talkin West Ham #GSBOUT](https://twitter.com/TalkinWestHam) on Twitter, the Hammers are at risk of losing the Frenchman.

The report claims that the ‘question of his future will quickly arise’ should David Moyes not give the [three-times capped](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alphonse-areola/nationalmannschaft/spieler/120629/verein_id/3377) ace regular game time ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

So far this season, Areola has made [eight appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alphonse-areola/leistungsdaten/spieler/120629) and earned an impressive [7.97 Sofascore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/alphonse-areola/96531) from three Carabao Cup displays.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

When signed many might’ve predicted the demise of Fabianski as the number one stopper, especially considering the Paris Saint-Germain loanee’s [superb 2020/21 campaign](https://www.sofascore.com/player/alphonse-areola/96531) at Fulham.

However, it’s been a role reversal as Moyes opted to retain the 36-year-old Pole as the first-choice ahead of the [£10.8million valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alphonse-areola/marktwertverlauf/spieler/120629) man.

Whilst Fabianski has been [far from out of form](https://www.sofascore.com/player/lukasz-fabianski/15479) this term, the second half of the campaign could still see a change of approach if the club wishes to keep Areola beyond the end of this season.
