# Virals: West Ham set to make Callum Marshall first January signing

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/12/23/stuart-pearce-discusses-potential-january-transfer-business/) have reportedly competed their first January signing in the shape of Linfield FC striker Callum Marshall.

The 17-year-old starlet is expected to join up with the Hammers [next month](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12489807/january-transfer-window-2022-when-does-it-open-and-close-dates-deadline-day-how-to-follow-with-sky-sports) following the completion of a three-year deal.

Prior to the move, the teenager is available to play for Linfield against Newington on Christmas Day in the [Steel & Sons Cup](https://www.linfieldfc.com/latestnews.aspx?id=25460) final.

That’s according to a report from the [BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/59768180), as cited by [WHU News](https://twitter.com/WHUNewsApp) on Twitter.

Marshall broke into the first-team at the [Northern Ireland Football League](https://www.nifootballleague.com/) Premiership side earlier this season and netted a first goal in an 11-0 win against PSNI in the League Cup.

So far this campaign the academy graduate has [scored once and provided one assist i](https://www.linfieldfc.com/lfcstats/mainstats2122.pdf)n five appearances.

One slightly from left-field perhaps.

Whilst this mightn’t be the big-name centre forward capture many were hoping for, it’s a sign the club continue to think about the [next generation](https://www.whufc.com/teams/academy/squad) as well as the current crop.

Unlikely to threaten David Moyes’ first-team in the second half of this season, Marshall will be looking to make an impact on the [youth sides](https://www.whufc.com/news/academy) before pushing on next term.
