# West Ham fans lament ‘inconsistent’ Issa Diop after defeat

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/12/22/james-collins-lauds-unbelievable-west-ham-midfielder-pablo-fornals/) were eliminated from the Carabao Cup at the quarter-final stage by London rivals Tottenham following a 2-1 defeat.

The Hammers had already gone [beyond Manchester City and Manchester United](https://www.efl.com/carabao-cup/fixtures-and-results/results/) before Spurs prevailed.

A superb [Jarrod Bowen goal](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/59662106) separated strikes from Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura in the first-half.

However, it was central defender [Issa Diop](https://readwestham.com/2021/12/08/trevor-sinclair-urges-west-ham-to-enter-january-transfer-market/) who bore the brunt of the frustration on social media as Irons’ fans had their say on the defeat.

> Issa Diop and Masuaku simply aren’t good enough, too inconsistent. Ogbonna and Cresswell are integral to our starting 11.

> Tired of waiting for Issa Diop to be good again.

> I'm sorry but Diop is an absolute liability today, that's about 4 huge mistakes now. Really hoping Zouma is back soon

Diop was rated [6.90 by Sofascore](https://www.sofascore.com/player/issa-diop/825719) in a performance containing three clearances and two blocked shots as well as losing possession on 13 occasions.

So far this season the 24-year-old Frenchman has made [11 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/issa-diop/leistungsdaten/spieler/272622) across all competitions for the Hammers.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

This was surely another sign that David Moyes must go into the [January transfer market](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12489807/january-transfer-window-2022-when-does-it-open-and-close-dates-deadline-day-how-to-follow-with-sky-sports) for a centre-back.

Albeit Diop is capable of a standout display, there is no doubting reinforcements are needed to supplement the [former Toulouse man](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/issa-diop/transfers/spieler/272622) and Craig Dawson.

Valued at £13.5million and under contract until 2023 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/issa-diop/marktwertverlauf/spieler/272622)), displays such as this won’t force those in change to offer a new deal anytime soon.
