# Virals: West Ham have reportedly ‘made an enquiry’ over Sven Botman

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/12/20/virals-west-ham-make-move-to-sign-khvicha-kvaratskhelia/) have reportedly ‘made an enquiry’ to sign Lille central defender [Sven Botman](https://readwestham.com/2021/07/29/virals-west-ham-most-keen-on-lille-defender-sven-botman/).

Irons’ boss David Moyes will likely attempt to strengthen the defensive department in January having [lost Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/west-ham-zouma-injury-blow-25636667) for a prolonged period.

Linked with a [host of possible candidates](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/transfer-news/) in recent weeks, 21-year-old Dutch starlet Botman is also seemingly on the radar in East London.

That’s according to a report from [90min](https://www.90min.com/posts/sven-botman-unsure-about-leaving-lille-in-january), as cited by [West Ham News & Views](https://twitter.com/WestHamViews_/status/1472902901395771396) on Twitter.

The report claims that the [nine-cap Holland ace](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sven-botman/nationalmannschaft/spieler/361093/verein_id/11944) is also amongst the ‘main targets’ for mega-rich Newcastle United.

So far this season Botman has earned a [6.96 Sofascore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/sven-botman/910046) from 11 Ligue 1 outings.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £27million and under contract in France until 2025 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sven-botman/marktwertverlauf/spieler/361093)), bringing the Dutchman to the London Stadium would likely be an expensive outlay for the club.

However, given the age of the defender and [high ceiling](https://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/fifa-22-the-150-best-wonderkids-in-the-game), West Ham would be solving an immediate problem whilst also planning for the future.

[Strong aerially](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/379732/Show/Sven-Botman) and dangerous in both penalty areas, Botman looks purpose-built to play in a Moyes led side.
