# Virals: West Ham ‘consider’ January move for Nat Phillips

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/12/09/virals-west-ham-may-reignite-nikola-milenkovic-chase/) are reportedly ‘considering’ a January move for Liverpool defender [Nat Phillips](https://readwestham.com/2021/12/07/pundit-believes-deal-for-brilliant-nat-phillips-is-possible-for-west-ham/) in the wake of their recent injuries.

The Hammers look set to be without first-choice the central defensive partnership of Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna for a [prolonged period](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/west-ham-zouma-injury-blow-25636667) following a hamstring and knee issue respectively.

Since then the Irons have been extensively linked with a [plethora of options](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/transfer-news/) and Phillips is seemingly among the leading contenders.

According to a report from the Evening Standard, as cited by [LFC Transfer Room](https://twitter.com/LFCTransferRoom) on Twitter, West Ham are weighing up a mid-season swoop.

The report claims that David Moyes wants a deal ‘lined up’ for early in the window and also mentions widely [reported interest](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-transfer-news-james-tarkowski-burnley-b65842.html) in Burnley stalwart James Tarkowski.

So far this season Phillips has made [four appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nathaniel-phillips/leistungsdaten/spieler/371814) across all competitions – including one [outstanding display](https://www.sofascore.com/player/nathaniel-phillips/920393) in midweek against AC Milan.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

This is a deal that would make an abundance of sense.

Unlike the others indexed with a switch to the London Stadium, Phillips would appear to be the most attainable given his current [surplus to requirements](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nathaniel-phillips/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/371814) status.

Having biding his time as the first-choice options returned to fitness, a mid-seaosn departure [could be on the cards](https://theathletic.com/2998368/2021/12/08/nat-phillips-might-leave-liverpool-soon-but-hell-always-have-milan-to-cherish/) for the Englishman.

An uncompromising operator with [aerial prowess](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/381527/Show/Nathaniel-Phillips) in both penalty areas, the Bolton-born ace looks ready-made to step into Moyes’ side with immediate effect.

Valued at £7.2million and under contract until 2025 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nathaniel-phillips/marktwertverlauf/spieler/371814)), wrapping up a deal in the region of the previously [mooted £12million](https://www.londonworld.com/sport/football/west-ham/west-ham-plotting-ps12million-january-raid-for-liverpool-defender-as-ogbonna-cover-3478752) would be smart business for all parties.
