# Virals: West Ham ‘interested’ in Borussia Monchengladbach ace Denis Zakaria

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/12/07/virals-west-ham-have-joined-the-race-for-benfica-striker-darwin-nunez/) have reportedly joined the clubs in pursuit of Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria.

The Hammers have moved in alongside the likes of [Liverpool](https://readliverpoolfc.com/2021/12/07/journalist-claims-liverpool-have-asked-for-information-on-denis-zakaria/), Everton, Juventus and AS Roma in the race for the 25-year-old.

That’s according to a report from [Calciomercato](https://www.calciomercato.com/news/non-solo-juve-e-roma-chi-sono-gli-altri-tre-club-interessati-a-z-36179), as cited by [Angelo Mangiante](https://twitter.com/angelomangiante) on Twitter.

The report claims that the interest in the [40-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/denis-zakaria/nationalmannschaft/spieler/334526/verein_id/3384) Swizterland ace is ‘strong’ as a contract heads steadfastly towards its conclusion.

So far this season Zakaria – who was hailed as a [‘top player’](https://www.planetfootball.com/quick-reads/he-reminds-me-of-kroos-seven-quotes-about-liverpool-target-denis-zakaria/) by Max Eberl – has [scored twice and provided one assist](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/denis-zakaria/leistungsdaten/spieler/334526) in 12 Bundesliga appearances.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £24.4million and available for nothing at the end of the season ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/denis-zakaria/marktwertverlauf/spieler/334526)), the calibre of interest should come as little surprise.

Predominantly a [defensive-minded midfielder](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/denis-zakaria/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/334526) Zakaria can also operate in more advanced positions and would offer David Moyes an alternative option to the reliable Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek combination.

Available to sign a [pre-contract agreement](https://www.lawinsport.com/topics/item/pre-contracts-in-football?category_id=152) from January 1, West Ham would be wise to steal a march on their competitors if at all possible.
