# Commentator criticises ‘struggling’ Lukasz Fabianski

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/11/28/mark-lawrenson-predicts-defeat-for-west-ham-at-manchester-city/) goalkeeper Lukas Fabianski continues to occupy the Hammers’ number one shirt despite fierce competition from Alphonse Areola.

Signed on a [season-long loan](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/july/29-july/west-ham-united-sign-world-cup-winning-goalkeeper-alphonse-areola) from Paris Saint Germain, many might’ve expected the Frenchman to take over from Fabianski in the Premier League.

However, that hasn’t proven to be the case and instead, the 28-year-old has been left to feature in the [Europa League and Carabao Cup](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alphonse-areola/leistungsdaten/spieler/120629) exclusively

As David Moyes’ side were beaten 2-1 by Manchester City on Sunday afternoon at the Etihad, [BT Sport commentator](https://icdb.tv/index.php) Joe Speight was critical of one attribute from the Irons’ stopper.

> Fabianski is struggling in these conditions with his kicking.

So far this season the recently retired Poland international has earned a [6.90 Sofascore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/lukasz-fabianski/15479) from 13 league outings.

Last term Areola finished the campaign with a [6.94 rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/alphonse-areola/96531) across 36 appearances whilst on loan at Fulham.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Fabianski certainly [appeared to struggle](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kf6s2uM1XQY) with distribution in snowy Manchester – a key component of modern-day football and the way Moyes wants his side to play.

Despite the arrival of [World Cup winner](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alphonse-areola/erfolge/spieler/120629) Areola, the experienced Pole has until now warranted a continued place in the league team.

It would seem that a tipping point could be around the corner now and Moyes may have to make the decision to give the [£12.6million valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alphonse-areola/marktwertverlauf/spieler/120629#:~:text=all%20players%20worldwide-,With%20a%20market%20value%20of%20%C2%A312.60m%2C%20Alphonse%20Areola,worldwide%20playing%20as%20%22Goalkeeper%22.) Frenchman the gloves permanently.
