# Virals: West Ham ‘ready to target’ Norwich City star Todd Cantwell

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/11/14/virals-west-ham-have-watched-arsenal-striker-folarin-balogun/) are reportedly ‘ready to target’ Norwich City midfielder, Todd Cantwell.

The Hammers could make a move for the 23-year-old as an [alternative option](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad/jesse-lingard#Profile) to Jesse Lingard as the Manchester United man attracts plenty of interest.

Cantwell has made a quiet start to the Premier League season having [scored seven and assisted two goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/todd-cantwell/leistungsdaten/spieler/332341/plus/0?saison=2019) in the top flight in 2019/20.

According to a report from [Claret and Hugh](https://www.claretandhugh.info/lingard-alternative-eyed/), as cited by [RumorsTransfersNews24/7](https://twitter.com/rumorstransfers)on Twitter, West Ham are considering a January swoop.

The report claims that the [four-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/todd-cantwell/nationalmannschaft/spieler/332341/verein_id/9565) England Under 21 starlet could be available at a ‘knockdown fee’ in the mid-season window.

So far this season Cantwell has made just [five appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/todd-cantwell/leistungsdaten/spieler/332341) for the Canaries but will be hoping for a change under [reported](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/nov/14/dean-smith-norwich-manager) new manager Dean Smith.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £19.8million and under contract until next summer ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/todd-cantwell/marktwertverlauf/spieler/332341)), signing Cantwell at a reduced rate in January would be extraordinarily shrewd business from the Irons.

Clearly a talented player with [plenty to offer](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/346738/Show/Todd-Cantwell) at the top level, David Moyes’ squad would receive a welcome boost with this capture.

Capable of operating in [various](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/todd-cantwell/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/332341) midfield positions, Cantwell would offer West Ham invaluable versatility.

Given the opportunity to sign either the Norwich starlet or Lingard, given the [five year differential](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/vergleich/spielervergleich/statistik/def/spieler/332341&141660) between them, it may be a no-brainer as a club decision.
