# Darren Gough calls for January spending spree at West Ham

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/11/10/virals-west-ham-consider-move-for-serie-a-hotshot-giovanni-simeone/) are riding the crest of a wave at present and should be looking to capitalise on their momentum in the January transfer window.

That’s according to former England cricketer and [talkSPORT](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCtqtsDQduc&feature=youtu.be) pundit Darren Gough.

> They’ve been very quiet \[in the summer\]. But they might come out and spend a few. They’ve got the backing now. The atmosphere is rocking. They are selling full houses most of the time. The club is in a good place. They have got a good manager. They have got good players. There’s a passion among the fans. So for me, it’s a no brainer. They have to go out and bring in a couple of good players in January.

As domestic football takes a temporary backseat the Hammers sit [third in the Premier League](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) and await Europa League knockout action in the new year following a Carabao Cup quarter-final meeting with Tottenham.

Meanwhile, fellow talkSPORT host Laura Woods has been [jumping to the defence of supporters](https://twitter.com/talkSPORT/status/1458346186184671234) after former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan seemingly took a swipe at the ‘we are massive’ craze.

> 🗣 “[@SJOpinion10](https://twitter.com/Sjopinion10?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) doesn’t understand. What [#WHUFC](https://twitter.com/hashtag/WHUFC?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) fans refer to when they say ‘we are massive’ is [@WestHamClips](https://twitter.com/WestHamClips?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw).”\

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

This is the prime opportunity to capitalise on what has been a [superb start](https://www.skysports.com/west-ham-united-results) to the season.

In the wake of the cruel [Angelo Ogbonna](https://readwestham.com/2021/11/09/virals-west-ham-defender-suffers-anterior-cruciate-ligament-injury/) news, David Moyes may target a central defender whilst a striker department is a glaringly obvious area in need of improvement.

Albeit left until the final hours the club did [eventually back Moyes](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/west-ham-united/transfers/verein/379) in the summer and similar levels of investment in January could see a truly extraordinary second half of the 2021/22 campaign unfold.

As for the Woods v Jordan debate, there is no contest…
