# Virals: Angelo Ogbonna ‘close to renewing’ West Ham contract

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/11/08/west-ham-reportedly-set-to-reignite-duje-caleta-car-pursuit/) centre-back [Angelo Ogbonna](https://readwestham.com/2021/10/20/virals-angelo-ogbonna-in-line-for-new-west-ham-contract/) is reportedly close to committing his future to the club.

The 33-year-old is set to be [out of contract at the end of the season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/angelo-ogbonna/profil/spieler/48002) and until now there has been little in the way of discussion over his plans.

Signed from Juventus in 2015 for £10million ([BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/33486122)), Ogbonna has been a superb servant to the Hammers and continues to play a pivotal role under David Moyes.

According to a report from [CalcioMercato](https://www.calciomercato.com/news/west-ham-novita-sul-fronte-ogbonna-44801), as cited by [Sport Witness](https://twitter.com/Sport_Witness) on Twitter, the affinity is set to extend beyond next summer.

The report doesn’t detail the length of the extension but instead states that the [13-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/angelo-ogbonna/nationalmannschaft/spieler/48002/verein_id/3376) Italy ace is ‘close to renewing’ at the London Stadium.

Since arriving in east London, Ogbonna has made [201 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/angelo-ogbonna/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/48002) as an Iron – scoring 13 times.

This season the Italian stalwart has made [11 outings](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/angelo-ogbonna/leistungsdaten/spieler/48002) across all competitions but is an [injury concern](https://www.claretandhugh.info/oggy-injury-update/) at present having been forced off against Liverpool on Sunday.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £2.25million ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/angelo-ogbonna/marktwertverlauf/spieler/48002)), alongside Kurt Zouma, Ogbonna continues to organise and lead from the back for West Ham.

Whether next season will see the Italian undergo a reduction in game time is up for debate, but there can surely be no question that the experienced defender is [deserving](https://www.sofascore.com/player/angelo-ogbonna/21164) of a contract extension at present.
