# Kevin Campbell believes Declan Rice is currently the ‘best EPL midfielder’

Former Premier League striker Kevin Campbell believes [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/11/05/joe-cole-showers-praise-on-unplayable-said-benrahma/) star [Declan Rice](https://readwestham.com/2021/11/02/pundits-continue-to-shower-praise-on-west-ham-star-declan-rice/) is the best in his position at present.

The 22-year-old central midfielder has made a [blistering start](https://www.sofascore.com/player/declan-rice/856714) to the new season and looks to be adding new dimensions to his game all the while.

Rice has [developed into a more complete player](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/david-moyes-successfully-helping-declan-rice-to-hone-attacking-edge-5w0vnkqhl) already this term, adding goals and assists to a well-oiled all-around game.

Speaking to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/campbell-in-awe-of-phenomenal-rice-after-what-hes-seen-live-and-direct-at-west-ham/), Campbell was full of praise for the Englishman.

> Rice is the best midfielder in the Premier League right now, he is. I watched him live and direct, very closely at the Everton game. He was miles ahead of everyone else on the pitch. United seriously missed a trick last summer. They should have been all over him. His performances are only putting the price up though. In the long run, I don’t think West Ham can afford him. He has to go to one of the big boys. He is that good. This boy has a huge future ahead of him. Fair play to him because he is improving at a rapid rate. He was good last season but he has been phenomenal this season.

So far this season Rice has [scored three times and provided three assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/declan-rice/leistungsdaten/spieler/357662) in 14 appearances – more [direct goal contributions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/declan-rice/leistungsdaten/spieler/357662/plus/0?saison=2020) than the entire 2020/21 campaign.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

This billing is about to face its sternest test to date in the shape of Liverpool.

Albeit Rice has shone in Europe and domestically against all-comers this term, Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Thiago could provide a whole new dilemma for the [27-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/declan-rice/nationalmannschaft/spieler/357662/verein_id/3299) star.

Should the London-born ace get to grips with his [opposing numbers](https://www.whufc.com/fixtures/first-team/fixtures-and-results) on Sunday then the Hammers will have gone a long way to securing a positive result.
