# Virals: West Ham ‘monitoring’ Hellas Verona star Antonin Barak

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/11/03/injury-expert-fears-for-alex-kral-following-fitness-update/) are reportedly ‘monitoring’ Hellas Verona attacking midfielder [Antonin Barak](https://readwestham.com/2021/07/30/virals-west-ham-very-hot-in-pursuit-of-antonin-barak-transfer/).

The 26-year-old is also on the radar of [mega-rich](https://talksport.com/football/958798/newcastle-transfer-news-takeover-targets-arsenal-man-united-lacazette-van-de-beek-premier-league/) Newcastle United, although at present the Magpies don’t have a manager in situ.

Signed from fellow Serie A side Udinese this year following a successful loan spell, Barak has made a [strong start](https://www.sofascore.com/player/antonin-barak/330705) to the 2021/22 campaign.

According to a report from Italian newspaper L’Arena (via [TuttoHellasVerona](https://www.tuttohellasverona.it/rassegna/l-arena-sirene-inglesi-per-barak-44944)), as cited on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/GOAT_AFC2/status/1455618156223995905), West Ham are keen on the Czech Republic international.

The report adds that Newcastle are the frontrunners for the [26-times capped](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/antonin-barak/nationalmannschaft/spieler/272261/verein_id/3445) ace who is a teammate of Vladimir Coufal and Tomas Soucek at the international level.

So far this season the former Slavia Prague man has [scored four times and provided one assist](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/antonin-barak/leistungsdaten/spieler/272261) in 11 league outings.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Although David Moyes is somewhat [blessed](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) in the midfield department, a majority of the options are defensive-minded.

Boasting an impressive career [goal contribution tally](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/antonin-barak/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/272261) across spells with a plethora of clubs, the versatile Czech ace would add a new dimension to the Hammers’ midfield.

Valued at £12.6million ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/antonin-barak/marktwertverlauf/spieler/272261)), paying the mooted £25million fee for Barak would be a worthwhile expenditure.
