# Virals: Journalist dismisses prospect of West Ham signing Ivan Toney

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/11/02/pundits-continue-to-shower-praise-on-west-ham-star-declan-rice/) have been heavily linked with a move for Brentford striker [Ivan Toney](https://readwestham.com/2021/05/09/virals-west-ham-target-ivan-toney-has-a-message-for-doubters/) for some time now.

The Hammers were tipped to [resolve their centre-forward crisis](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/news/west-ham-ivan-toney-moyes-21739732) with a move for the 25-year-old as the Bees were moving steadfastly towards promotion to the Premier League.

Since arriving in the top flight Toney has [continued to produce the goods](https://www.sofascore.com/player/ivan-toney/290927) and the Irons are still in need of attacking reinforcements.

However, when asked on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/_thomasjclark/status/1454923652974190595?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1454923652974190595%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fd-2469472176146753521.ampproject.net%2F2110152252002%2Fframe.html) who David Moyes should be looking at in the January transfer window, journalist Tom Clark suggested the Brentford man would be the ideal candidate – albeit with a weighty caveat.

> Ivan Toney would fit the bill nicely but no chance Brentford sell in January.

Described as [‘special’](https://www.westlondonsport.com/brentford/frank-hails-special-toney-and-gives-injury-updates-on-dasilva-and-mbeumo) by Thomas Frank, the Northampton-born striker has proved to be [more than a match](https://talksport.com/football/951646/virgil-van-dijk-liverpool-defence-ivan-toney-brentford-striker-jurgen-klopp-mo-salah/) for the top-flight’s best defenders.

So far this season Toney has [scored three times and registered another three assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ivan-toney/leistungsdaten/spieler/251664) in 11 appearances across all competitions.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Although things are currently rosy at the London Stadium, the [looming fear](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-fc-news-michail-antonio-pablo-fornals-david-moyes-b900109.html) over a Michail Antonio injury remains.

The Jamaican forward is integral to Moyes’ side and without him, the next cab off the rank is either a [converted option](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/players/jarrod-bowen-west-ham-drought-21861258) or a youngster.

Valued at £28.8million and under contract until 2025 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ivan-toney/marktwertverlauf/spieler/251664)), it would likely take the entire £40million mooted budget to land Toney – although it would be money well spent.
