# Paul Scholes lauds ‘sensational’ West Ham star Tomas Soucek

Former Premier League midfielder Paul Scholes has labelled [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/10/26/otd-west-ham-beat-london-rivals-chelsea-in-league-cup-thriller/) ace [Tomas Soucek](https://readwestham.com/2021/10/04/david-moyes-admits-tomas-souceks-struggle-for-best-form/) as ‘sensational’.

The 26-year-old Czech Republic international has been a revelation since arriving in east London and [continues to impress](https://www.sofascore.com/player/tomas-soucek/799041) in claret and blue.

Despite predominantly operating as a defensive midfielder, the powerful ace scored [10 league goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tomas-soucek/leistungsdaten/spieler/283628/plus/0?saison=2020) last term.

Speaking to [Premier League Productions (24/10/21 1:55 pm)](https://www.premierleague.com/), Scholes compared Soucek to another of David Moyes’ former stars.

> He reminds me so much of \[Marouane\] Fellaini at Everton. Never really involved in the game. Never really plays football. But in both boxes, he is sensational.

So far this season the [47-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tomas-soucek/nationalmannschaft/spieler/283628/verein_id/3445) Czech has [scored once and provided one assist](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tomas-soucek/leistungsdaten/spieler/283628) in nine league outings.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Given the comparable [aerial prowess](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marouane-fellaini/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/39679) from deep, comparisons to the Belgian destroyer are accurate.

Early indications this season would suggest Soucek has taken a backseat in the midfield and allowed Declan Rice to be the [more progressive](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/david-moyes-successfully-helping-declan-rice-to-hone-attacking-edge-5w0vnkqhl) of the duo.

That change shouldn’t detract from the Czech bulwark’s [threat in the area](https://theconventionalplaymaker.wordpress.com/2020/07/20/souceks-aerial-threat-a-weapon-in-battle-for-premier-league-survival/) and Moyes will no doubt be working tirelessly to get both involved in attacking phases.

Signed for £15million following a successful loan spell ([Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11685/12035297/west-ham-sign-tomas-soucek-from-slavia-prague-on-four-year-deal)), it’s fair to say West Ham got a bargain on the [£37.8million valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tomas-soucek/marktwertverlauf/spieler/283628) man.
