# Virals: West Ham ‘best placed’ to sign Barcelona goalkeeper Neto

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/10/20/virals-angelo-ogbonna-in-line-for-new-west-ham-contract/) have been named as the club ‘best placed’ to sign Barcelona goalkeeper [Neto](https://readwestham.com/2021/05/24/virals-west-ham-a-possible-destination-for-barcelona-goalkeeper-neto/).

The Hammers are believed to be [keen on the wantaway stopper](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fc-barcelona/20210523/493902010340/el-west-ham-posible-destino-para-neto.html) as a replacement for veteran number one Lukasz Fabianski.

Despite completing the [loan signing of Alphonse Areola](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/july/29-july/west-ham-united-sign-world-cup-winning-goalkeeper-alphonse-areola) from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, another new ‘keeper could be coming through the door.

That’s according to a report from Spanish outlet [Sport](https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/neto-salir-barca-enero-12298428), as cited by [BarçaTimes](https://twitter.com/BarcaTimes) on Twitter claiming that David Moyes wants the Brazilian.

The report claims that Barca would demand €18million (£15million) for the 32-year-old [once capped](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/neto/nationalmannschaft/spieler/111819/verein_id/3439) ace.

Neto has amassed [258 senior appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/neto/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/111819) across spells at Fiorentina, Valencia, Juventus and Club Athletico Paranaense prior to arriving at the Camp Nou.

This season the perennial backup has made [two La Liga appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/neto/leistungsdaten/spieler/111819).

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Fabianski’s future remains one of the more puzzling aspects of the current Irons’ [squad](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad).

[Out of contract](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lukasz-fabianski/profil/spieler/29692) at the end of the season, the Polish ace continues to perform admirably and is still arguably the number one choice for Moyes in the Premier League.

Making the Areola deal [permanent next summer](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/jul/29/west-ham-close-to-signing-goalkeeper-alphonse-areola-on-loan-from-psg#:~:text=West%20Ham%20have%20signed%20Alphonse,emerged%20as%20his%20top%20target.) should be a no-brainer and therefore Neto could be the instant number two in east London.

It also remains imminently possible young stopper Nathan Trott could [return](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/july/22-july/west-ham-united-goalkeeper-nathan-trott-joins-nancy-lorraine-season) to play a part in the first-team fold.

Valued at £4.5million and under contract until 2023 at Barcelona ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/neto/marktwertverlauf/spieler/111819)), spending the mooted £15million asking price on the Brazilian seems unnecessary.
