# Virals: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer clarifies Jesse Lingard contract situation

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has clarified the situation regarding [Jesse Lingard](https://readwestham.com/2021/10/15/virals-west-ham-closely-following-croatian-wonderkid-roko-simic/)‘s contract.

Continuously linked with a return to [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/10/15/virals-west-ham-closely-interested-in-fc-copenhagen-striker-jonas-wind/) on the back of a stunning loan spell last season, there remains hope the 28-year-old could be a Hammer once more.

Those [hopes](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/west-ham-january-hope-reason-failed-man-utd-lingard-transfer-emerges) would appear to pin largely on the attacking midfielder’s dwindling contract.

Speaking during a [pre-match press conference](https://www.manutd.com/en/news/detail/full-transcript-from-ole-gunnar-solskjaer-pre-leicester-press-conference), as cited by [Mirror Football](https://twitter.com/MirrorFootball/status/1449263085340934144) on Twitter, Solskjaer has admitted that they are hopeful Lingard will extend his deal at Old Trafford.

> Hopefully, we can get a deal sorted for Jesse because we really rate him, he’s a top player and top person who’s good to have around the club.

Solskjaer also stated that the [32-cap England international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/nationalmannschaft/spieler/141660/verein_id/3299) has been ‘very important’ to the Norwegian’s side so far this term.

Lingard has scored [twice in six appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/leistungsdaten/spieler/141660) this season – including one last gasp winner at the London Stadium.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

There can be no underestimating the [impact Lingard had](https://www.sofascore.com/player/jesse-lingard/205508) in east London for the second half of last season.

However, having opted to stay in Manchester during the summer, David Moyes went into the market and signed Nikola Vlasic for £26.8million ([BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/58388047)) on deadline day – somewhat of a like for like replacement.

That expensive arrival means the Irons would likely only be interested were the [£19.8million valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jesse-lingard/marktwertverlauf/spieler/141660) Lingard become available for free.
