# Virals: West Ham ‘want’ England U21 goalkeeper Etienne Green

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/10/14/virals-jesse-lingard-opens-up-on-crazy-west-ham-loan-spell/) reportedly ‘want’ to sign Saint-Etienne goalkeeper Etienne Green.

The Hammers have been named alongside [London-rivals](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2013/02/25/3778137/west-ham-v-tottenham-a-most-unusual-rivalry) Tottenham as admirers of the 21-year-old.

Born in Essex, Green moved to France aged four and has [come through the youth ranks](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/etienne-green/transfers/spieler/696849) at the Geoffroy Stadium.

Having previously [confirmed](https://twitter.com/central_louis/status/1433910381777457159) that the Hammers are his favoured Premier League outfit, David Moyes could be confident of landing the England youth ace.

According to a report from [TEAMtalk](https://www.teamtalk.com/tottenham-hotspur/exclusive-tottenham-west-ham-want-giant-keeper-excelling-france), the [once capped](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/spielbericht/index/spielbericht/3520107) England Under 21 starlet is ‘being watched’ by numerous clubs.

Standing at 6ft 4in, Green made a [senior debut](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/etienne-green/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/696849) in France during the 2020/21 campaign.

Now the Ligue 1 side’s number one, this season the stopper described as [‘perfect’](https://en.asse-newsfeed.com/2021/04/as-saint-etienne-etienne-green-receives-praise-from-this-iconic-goalkeeper-asse-news/) by Mickaël Landreau has earned a [6.58 average Sofascore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/green-etienne/989538) from eight outings.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Despite currently being [blessed](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) in the goalkeeping department, that situation could change dramatically come to the end of the season.

Lukasz Fabianski and David Martin both see [contracts expire in 2022](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/david-martin/profil/spieler/15930) whilst Darren Randolph could also seek pastures new to find first-team action.

With the Irons future of [loanee Nathan Trott](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/july/22-july/west-ham-united-goalkeeper-nathan-trott-joins-nancy-lorraine-season) still up in the air, singing a talented young ‘keeper could quickly become a priority.

Valued at £7.20million and under contract in France until 2025 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/etienne-green/marktwertverlauf/spieler/696849)), Green would be an expensive outlay for the club.
