# Virals: Lukasz Fabianski receives emotional international send-off

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/10/10/virals-west-ham-earmark-espanyol-striker-raul-de-tomas/) goalkeeper [Lukasz Fabianski](https://readwestham.com/2021/09/13/kevin-phillips-predicts-aggrieved-lukasz-fabianski-following-change/) couldn’t hide his emotions after bringing an end to a superb international career this weekend.

The 36-year-old kept a clean sheet on a final Poland outing, ending a career that began in 2006 and included [57 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lukasz-fabianski/nationalmannschaft/spieler/29692/verein_id/3442) for his country.

Fabianski started as the Poles enjoyed a comfortable [5-0 victory over San Marino](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/58858187) before receiving a guard of honour by players from both teams.

Replaced by 21-year-old Monaco stopper Radoslaw Majecki, Fabianski kissed the Poland badge before [sharing a moment](https://twitter.com/WestHam/status/1447114222081609729) with his teammates on the way off.

Named [Polish Footballer of the Year](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lukasz-fabianski/erfolge/spieler/29692) in 2018, the experienced Pole can retire from international duty very satisfied.

So far this season,  Fabianski has [started all seven](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lukasz-fabianski/leistungsdaten/spieler/29692) of West Ham’s Premier League games despite strong competition from Alphonse Areola.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Having [extended his contract](https://theathletic.com/news/west-ham-lukasz-fabianski-contract/rZnnn1kbxgHV) until summer 2022, the Hammers still have a decision to make over the Pole’s long-term future at the London Stadium.

Now valued at just £1.35million ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lukasz-fabianski/marktwertverlauf/spieler/29692)), few could deny that the veteran ‘keeper continues to [defy the odds](https://www.sofascore.com/player/lukasz-fabianski/15479) at the top level.

However, with Areola waiting in the wings and [links](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57791313) to West Brom and England ace Sam Johnstone ongoing, a career as first-choice in east London beyond next summer seems unlikely.
