# OTD: West Ham obliterated Sunderland 6-0 at Upton Park

On this day (October 11) in 1992, [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/10/11/virals-lukasz-fabianski-receives-emotional-international-send-off/) beat Sunderland 6-0 at Upton Park.

Managed by the [legendary](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2019/february/06-february/ten-reasons-billy-bonds-west-ham-united-legend) Billy Bonds, the hosts were on red hot form in front of a 10,326 crowd in east London.

The Hammers [goalscorers](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2019/october/11-october/day-six-best-stun-sunderland) on the day were Kevin Keen, Alvin Martin, Trevor Morley, Clive Allen and a brace from midfielder Mark Robson.

The three points would eventually help secure promotion back to the newly formed Premier League as the Irons [finished second behind Newcastle United](https://www.englishfootballleaguetables.co.uk/final/f1992-93.html#d2) in the old First Division.

Whilst the Irons may have fallen and risen again many times over in the ensuing near three decades, Sunderland currently find themselves attempting to earn promotion out of League One.
