# Virals: West Ham ‘eyeing a move’ for Charlton Athletic starlet Deji Elerewe

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/10/07/noel-whelan-backs-nikola-vlasic-to-kickstart-west-ham-career/) were reportedly one of three Premier League clubs to send scouts to watch an EFL Trophy fixture this week.

League One side Charlton Athletic faced Southampton Under-21s at The Valley on Tuesday and the hosts ran out [4-1](https://www.cafc.co.uk/news/view/615cabb319a2c/papa-johns-trophy-report-charlton-4-southampton-u21s-1) winners.

Striker Jayden Stockley [scored twice](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkE5WigLYh4), before Ben Purrington and James Pearce secured a resounding victory for the Addicks as Olly Lancashire grabbed a consolation for the Premier League youngsters.

According to a report from [All Nigeria Soccer](https://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/read_news.php?nid=41290), as cited by [melodyinter.com](https://twitter.com/melodyinter1) on Twitter, the Hammers were particularly impressed with Deji Elerewe.

The report claims Manchester United and Chelsea also had scouts watching the ‘exciting’ youngsters on show, but the [18-year-old centre-back](https://www.cafc.co.uk/news/view/6113b41c4b345/deji-elerewe-reflects-on-a-whirlwind-summer) ‘caught the eye’.

Described by Nigel Adkins as [‘exceptional’](https://londonnewsonline.co.uk/exceptional-charlton-teenage-defender-earns-big-praise-from-manager-nigel-adkins/), this season the teenager has made [four first-team appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/deji-elerewe/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/874090) for Charlton – including two fleeting league outings.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

During David Moyes’ second tenure at the London Stadium, there has been a [concentration](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/david-moyes/spielertransfers/trainer/450) on signing talented young talent.

It would certainly appear Elerware fits into that category and with a [contract due to expire](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/deji-elerewe/profil/spieler/874090) in 2022, West Ham look to be in a position of strength to make this deal happen.

Elerewe would join the likes of Frederik Alves, Thierry Nevers and [Armstrong Okoflex](https://readwestham.com/2021/09/30/west-ham-consider-loan-move-for-teenager-armstrong-okoflex/) as recently signed academy starlets.
