# Virals: David Moyes confirms ‘doubt’ over Vladimir Coufal

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/09/30/west-ham-consider-loan-move-for-teenager-armstrong-okoflex/) manager David Moyes has confirmed that right-back [Vladimir Coufal](https://readwestham.com/2021/08/31/virals-czech-duo-welcome-alex-kral-to-west-ham-in-unique-style/) may miss the clash with Rapid Vienna.

The Hammers are already without backup option Ryan Fredericks after the Englishman [injured a thigh](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-vs-rapid-vienna-ryan-fredericks-europa-league-b957868.html) against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup.

Coufal had been expected to play an [eighth game of the season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/vladimir-coufal/leistungsdaten/spieler/157672) but now looks unlikely to feature for the Irons.

Speaking to the [club’s official website](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/september/29-september/team-news-david-moyes-offers-ryan-fredericks-and-vladimir), as cited on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/WestHam/status/1443250137548079110), Moyes confirmed Coufal’s potential blow.

> Ryan (Fredericks) is not available \[for Thursday\] from his injury. We’ve got a bit of doubt with Vladimír Coufal as well, but apart from that, we’re hoping that most people are available and fit.

The [24 times capped](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/vladimir-coufal/nationalmannschaft/spieler/157672/verein_id/3445) Czech Republic ace has been a [revelation](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/vladimir-coufal/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/157672) since arriving at the London Stadium and his absence will be felt hard.

Academy graduate [Ben Johnson](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad/ben-johnson#Profile) is likely to be asked to deputise should Coufal fail to make the starting lineup.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Moyes will be reticent to include the [combative Czech star](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/111372/Show/Vladimir-Coufal) unless he is 100 per cent fit and ready.

With Brentford [heading to east London](https://www.whufc.com/fixtures/first-team/fixtures-and-results) in the Premier League on Sunday, no risks should be taken for a game Johnson is perfectly capable of coping in.

Named as part of the [Czech Republic squad](https://twitter.com/WestHam/status/1443532198867505160) to face Wales and Belarus over the international break, communications between club and country would clearly suggest the problem isn’t too serious.
