# West Ham midfielder Manuel Lanzini convinced River Plate return will happen

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/09/27/garth-crooks-lauds-michail-antonio-for-recent-development/) attacking midfielder [Manuel Lanzini](https://readwestham.com/2021/09/23/martin-tyler-praises-class-west-ham-ace-manuel-lanzini/) is convinced that a return to boyhood club River Plate is on the cards.

The 28-year-old Argentine has been a Hammer since a 2015 [move from Al-Jazira](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manuel-lanzini/transfers/spieler/135853) having initially joined on a loan.

Since then the ace has scored [23 goals and provided 23 assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manuel-lanzini/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/135853) in 162 appearances as an Iron.

Now, Lanzini has told [ESPN](https://www.espn.com.ar/), as cited on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/CARiverPlateBR/status/1441739528113246208), that a return to River Plate one day would appeal to the star.

> "Eu desejo voltar ao River Plate algum dia, eu adoraria. Acredito que no devido tempo isso vai acontecer, quando as duas partes concordarem que vai acontecer". ¡[#VamosRiver](https://twitter.com/hashtag/VamosRiver?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw)! ⚪🔴⚪\

> I would go back to River obviously – I would love to. I think it it will happen when the two parties agree it will happen. I’m happy (at West Ham). It’s good there are many cups because the players have to rotate and it makes those of us who haven’t been playing active and able to show the manager we deserve to be starting.

Prior to a move to Fluminense, the [five-times capped](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manuel-lanzini/nationalmannschaft/spieler/135853/verein_id/3437) Lanzini had scored [13 times and added 14 assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manuel-lanzini/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/135853/verein/209) in 89 outings in Argentina.

Valued at £9million and under contract until 2023 at the London Stadium ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manuel-lanzini/marktwertverlauf/spieler/135853)), it would appear on the face of matters that the midfielder still has plenty to offer David Moyes’ squad.

However, having played just [13 minutes of top-flight football](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manuel-lanzini/leistungsdaten/spieler/135853) this term, this homecoming could happen sooner rather than later.
