# Virals: Winston Reid bids fond farewell to West Ham on social media

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/09/21/kevin-nolan-claims-west-ham-wouldnt-sell-declan-rice-for-100million/) stalwart [Winston Reid](https://readwestham.com/2021/09/05/virals-west-ham-enter-talks-to-terminate-winston-reids-contract/) has called time on a career in east London as the defender and the club reached an agreement to mutually terminate the ace’s contract.

The news was [confirmed](https://twitter.com/WestHam/status/1440382822993195010) by the club on Tuesday evening as the Hammers prepare to face Manchester United in the Carabao Cup.

Clearly out of the reckoning following the [arrival of Kurt Zouma](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11685/12391116/kurt-zouma-west-ham-sign-france-international-defender-from-chelsea-on-four-year-deal) and permanent capture of Craig Dawson, the 33-year-old will now seek a new club as a free agent.

Soon after the news broke, the New Zealand international [released a statement](https://twitter.com/WestHam/status/1440389224843268103) thanking the fans for their support over the years.

> "I just want to say thank you and wish you all the best for the future."\

Signed from FC Midtjylland in 2010 in a deal worth £3.78million ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/winston-reid/transfers/spieler/37526)), Reid has been a superb servant to the club.

Scoring [10 and providing another 10 assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/winston-reid/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/37526) in 233 Irons’ outings, the towering Kiwi was a dominant presence in both boxes and will be fondly remembered for a [host of iconic moments](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/september/21-september/pictures-winston-reids-best-moments-hammer).

Sent out on loan twice over the last 18 months to Sporting Kansas and Brentford respectively, Reid has struggled to recapture top form following a [serious knee injury](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-defender-winston-reid-stretchered-off-with-knee-injury-during-swansea-clash-a3780726.html) suffered against Swansea City in 2018.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

What a man.

Despite the recent struggles, Reid should be held in the highest esteem by Hammers everywhere given what the defender [produced](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/winston-reid/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/37526) prior to the injury.

A warrior in the truest sense of the word, hopefully, the [25 times capped](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/winston-reid/nationalmannschaft/spieler/37526/verein_id/9171) Kiwi can find a new club soon and prove he still has plenty left to offer.
