# Virals: Ben Johnson set to be offered new West Ham contract

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/09/21/kevin-nolan-claims-west-ham-wouldnt-sell-declan-rice-for-100million/) are reportedly set to offer a new contract to young defender [Ben Johnson](https://readwestham.com/2019/08/14/west-ham-fans-call-for-ben-johnson-to-start-against-brighton/).

The 21-year-old [signed a new deal in 2019](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2019/march/20-march/west-ham-youngster-ben-johnson-signs-new-long-term-contract) to take him up to the end of this season.

However, the club look to be set to make an offer in order to tie the [London-born starlet](https://www.transfermarkt.com/ben-johnson/profil/spieler/468002) down for a further three years.

That’s according to a report from [Claret and Hugh](https://www.claretandhugh.info/new-contract-offer-on-way-for-hammer/) claiming that the Hammers want to keep Johnson at the London Stadium for the foreseeable future.

The versatile full-back is among a host of Irons due to become free agents in 2022, as highlighted in a previous [Tweet](https://twitter.com/WestHamViews_/status/1420652497795002370) from West Ham News & Views.

Johnson has made [25 senior appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-johnson/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/468002/verein/379) as an Iron, scoring once against Brighton & Hove Albion in a 2-2 draw last season.

This term the academy graduate has made [two appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-johnson/leistungsdaten/spieler/468002) and could be in line to make a third at Old Trafford when David Moyes names the side to face Manchester United.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £2.70million ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-johnson/marktwertverlauf/spieler/468002)), West Ham would be wise to extend the ace’s deal.

Allowing players of his ilk to leave for nothing is poor business and given the additional [versatility](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-johnson/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/468002), Moyes will need Johnson throughout a packed season.
