# Virals: West Ham made ‘serious efforts’ to sign Youseff En-Nesyri

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/09/09/commenator-fawns-over-pablo-fornals-first-ever-spain-goal/) reportedly made ‘serious efforts’ in their attempts to sign Sevilla forward [Youssef En-Nesyri](https://readwestham.com/2021/07/09/virals-west-ham-return-to-charge-for-youssef-en-nesyri/) in January.

The 24-year-old Moroccan was firmly installed as the favourite to replace Sebastien Haller at the London Stadium following a [mid-season switch](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/january/08-january/sebastien-haller-joins-ajax) to Ajax.

However, the Hammers ultimately [missed out](https://talksport.com/football/821164/west-ham-offer-sevilla-youssef-en-nesyri-bid/) on the free-scoring ace and continued in their striker search throughout the recently closed summer transfer window.

That search also proved fruitless as David Moyes [failed to add support](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/west-ham-united/transfers/verein/379) for Michail Antonio.

Now according to a report from [La Colina de Nervion](https://www.lacolinadenervion.com/sevilla-fc-fichajes-arsenal-no-pierde-de-vista-youssef-en-nesyri/), as cited by [Sport Witness](https://twitter.com/Sport_Witness/status/1435595578012995585) on Twitter, West Ham could face competition from London rivals Arsenal for En-Nesyri’s signature.

The report claims that the Gunners view the [35-cap star](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/youssef-en-nesyri/nationalmannschaft/spieler/433049/verein_id/3575) as the ‘ideal’ replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

West Ham are believed to [maintain their interest](https://www.larazon.es/laotraliga/20210421/gbg43flvvjcwbmnr6e7octklpm.html) in En-Nesyri, who scored 18 La Liga goals last season.

This term has started in a similar vein for the ace hailed as [‘very strong’](https://www.goal.com/en-ug/news/diego-carlos-in-awe-of-en-nesyris-sevilla-impact-as-he/i3pe10g3cj0z17ja94z76x9l4) by teammate Diego Carlos, scoring [twice and adding one assist](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/youssef-en-nesyri/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/433049/plus/0/saison/2021/wettbewerb/ES1/verein/368) in the opening three league outings.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £36million and under contract in Seville until 2025 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/youssef-en-nesyri/marktwertverlauf/spieler/433049)), signing En-Nesyri would be an expensive outlay for either London club.

Bizarrely, the Hammers are in a [far better place](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/arsenal-mikel-arteta-problems-brentford-b1904189.html) to stake a claim for the Moroccan than Arsenal.

With ongoing Europa League football on offer, as well as a far loftier [Premier League](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) position, West Ham could win any ensuing transfer battle over their north London adversaries.

If ever a battle was worthy of winning, it’s this one. En-Nesyri possesses an abundance of [attacking attributes](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/323547/Show/Youssef-En-Nesyri) that would see the star face every opportunity of successfully making the transition to English football.
