# Martin Allen ‘can’t believe’ West Ham’s summer transfer business

Former [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/09/07/virals-happy-birthday-to-west-ham-favourite-robert-snodgrass/) midfielder Martin Allen has been expressing his delight at the summer transfer business at the London Stadium.

After a quiet start to the window, the Hammers were able to sign [Kurt Zouma](https://readwestham.com/2021/09/01/paul-merson-believes-chelsea-will-miss-west-ham-signing-kurt-zouma/), Alex Kral and Nikola Vlasic in the final days.

That trio joined Alphonse Areola as the [new additions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/west-ham-united/transfers/verein/379) to a squad that finished sixth in the Premier League last season.

Speaking to [The West Ham Way podcast](https://www.patreon.com/posts/mad-dog-bites-1-55845873?utm_medium=post_notification_email&utm_source=post_link&utm_campaign=patron_engagement&token=eyJ0eXAiOiJKV1QiLCJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJyZWRpc19rZXkiOiJpbnN0YW50LWFjY2Vzczo1YmM2YzdlMS1iZWRjLTRmMzEtODNlZS0wYjE0YzYyNTE0ZTgifQ.qWAKddeiHM7dHjwyJ3dMe8gWOHO-uiTXaJ5DyR-Pu74), the 56-year-old was in awe of the way David Moyes had gone about the business.

> I can’t believe it. Some of the players we’ve signed, I feel we’ve gone for quality and not quantity. They’ve found the right characters. The two Czech lads have brought over one of their teammates \[Alex Kral\] and I think he’ll be a good find.

Allen represented the club on [65 occasions](https://www.transfermarkt.us/martin-allen/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/226180/verein/379) during a playing career before turning to management.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

This window certainly felt like a more calculated approach from West Ham.

In previous incarnations, the club might’ve [panic bought](https://whatculture.com/sport/9-ridiculous-panic-buys-transfer-deadline-day) in order to have sufficient numbers to cope with the demands.

However, on this occasion, Moyes and first-team coach Stuart Pearce were [adamant](https://www.football365.com/news/west-ham-victims-of-their-semi-success-this-summer-claims-stuart-pearce) only players of sufficient quality will be considered.

Given the stature of the signings, Hammers can be confident of competing [both domestically and on the European stage](https://www.whufc.com/fixtures/first-team/fixtures-and-results) this season.
