# Virals: Declan Rice wants ‘suitable release clause’ in new contract

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/09/02/stuart-pearce-pleased-with-transfer-business-at-west-ham/) midfielder [Declan Rice](https://readwestham.com/2021/09/03/pundits-heap-praise-on-declan-rice-following-resounding-england-display/) is reportedly open to discussing a new deal at the London Stadium.

The 22-year-old was in fine form for England as the Three Lions overcame Hungary [4-0](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/12040/12397579/england-players-targeted-with-racist-abuse-in-hungary-during-world-cup-qualifying-win) on Thursday night.

Previous speculation has linked the combative ace with a move away from the Hammers, heightened by a [reported](https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/declan-rice-would-reject-west-ham-united-contract-offers-to-keep-options-open-xvp2zl97p#:~:text=Declan%20Rice%20would%20reject%20West%20Ham%20United%20contract%20offers%20to%20keep%20options%20open,-Tom%20Roddy%2C%20Molly&text=Declan%20Rice%20plans%20to%20rebuff,of%20a%20move%20this%20summer.) refusal to sign a new contract, Rice is now willing to negotiate.

That’s according to a report from [90min](https://www.90min.com/posts/west-ham-transfer-news-declan-rice-man-utd-man-city-chelsea-liverpool), as cited by [Premier League News](https://twitter.com/PLTransferNews9/status/1433712745304764433) on Twitter, claiming the 24-cap man wants a ‘suitable release clause’ inserted.

The report also states that Rice ‘fully expects’ the [2021/22 campaign](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) to be his last in east London as Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United wait.

So far this season the on-field Irons’ captain has registered one assist whilst earning a [7.30 average Sofascore rating](https://www.sofascore.com/player/declan-rice/856714) from the opening three Premier League fixtures.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

As the Hammers continue to progress domestically, it remains imminently possible the club could meet the England star’s [lofty ambitions](https://www.football.london/chelsea-fc/transfer-news/chelsea-transfer-news-declan-rice-19344046).

Valued at £63million and under contract until 2024 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/declan-rice/marktwertverlauf/spieler/357662)), any release clause would likely be in excess of the [£100million valuation](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11685/12239546/declan-rice-david-moyes-says-west-ham-midfielder-is-worth-more-than-100m) imparted by David Moyes previously.

This whole situation smacks of the deal that saw Aston Villa captain [Jack Grealish leave the Midlands club](https://www.mancity.com/news/mens/manchester-city-sign-jack-grealish-63763786) this summer as Manchester City met a clause in the attacking midfielder’s contract.

If accurate, West Ham must guard against putting a wholly affordable clause in any deal as the [big spenders](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/vergleich/vereinsvergleich/statistik/631_281) find reaching the £100million mark all too easy.
