# Virals: West Ham ‘failed’ to reach asking price for Mohamed Bayo

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/09/02/david-gold-takes-to-twitter-to-welcome-new-west-ham-signings/) are believed to have missed out on Clermont 63 striker Mohamed Bayo this summer.

Despite a [busy end](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/west-ham-united/transfers/verein/379) to the transfer window, the Hammers ended up without a recognised frontman arrival at the London Stadium.

This leaves David Moyes with only [Michail Antonio](https://readwestham.com/2021/08/29/paul-merson-lauds-in-form-west-ham-star-michail-antonio/) as an out and out central option following the January departure of Sebastien Haller.

According to a report from [Le10 Sport](https://le10sport.com/football/mercato/exclu-mercato-prolongation-en-vue-pour-bayo-clermont-565273), as cited by [Louis (West Ham Central)](https://twitter.com/central_louis/status/1433161610768572428) on Twitter, the Irons had considered a move for Guinea international, Bayo.

The report claims that the Irons were alongside Anderlecht, Bordeaux, Lyon and Lille in [showing an interest](https://sportwitness.co.uk/west-ham-contacted-club-get-info-striker-impressive-scoring-record/) in the 23-year-old – although none of the aforementioned clubs were willing to reach £9million.

Last season Bayo scored a remarkable [22 goals in Ligue 2](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mohamed-bayo/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/594991/plus/0/saison/2020/wettbewerb/FR2/verein/3524) whilst adding seven assists in a promotion-winning campaign.

So far this term in the top flight, the centre-forward has [netted three and registered two assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mohamed-bayo/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/594991/plus/0/saison/2021/wettbewerb/FR1/verein/3524) in the opening four fixtures.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £5.4million and under contract until 2023 in France ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mohamed-bayo/marktwertverlauf/spieler/594991)), paying £9million for the in-form Guinean would’ve been considered a bargain.

Overall Bayo has scored [42 goals in 88 club appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mohamed-bayo/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/594991) – underlining the very strong finishing, heading and key passing attributes cited ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/422190/Show/Mohamed-Bayo)).

Albeit the summer business was ultimately impressive, there is certainly a striker missing from Moyes’ perfect [squad](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad).
