# Virals: West Ham midfielder Conor Coventry ‘heading’ to Peterborough

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/08/31/virals-celtic-exploring-loan-deal-for-west-ham-youngster-harrison-ashby/) midfielder [Conor Coventry](https://readwestham.com/2019/11/08/coventry-rejects-new-west-ham-deal-amid-fears-of-january-departure/) looks to be ‘heading’ to Peterborough on loan for the duration of the 2021/22 season.

The 21-year-old had been [backed to play a role in David Moyes’ squad](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/July/13-July/PreseasonmatchwinnerConorCoventrypleasedwithWestHamsperformanceinNorthamptonvictory) this term, but could instead further his development in the Championship.

This comes as [reports](https://twitter.com/JBurtTelegraph/status/1432651716630024192?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet) claim that the Hammers are closing in on a deal for Spartak Moscow midfielder Alex Kral.

According to a report from [Football League World](https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/exclusive-peterborough-united-close-to-loan-signing-of-west-ham-player/) and [Tom Clark](https://twitter.com/_thomasjclark/status/1432629044110151680) on Twitter, the Posh have been identified as the ideal place for Coventry to learn.

Capped [13 times](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/conor-coventry/nationalmannschaft/spieler/419025/verein_id/21103) at Under 21 level by the Republic of Ireland, it would certainly appear that the young Iron has a bright future.

Despite featuring prominently during pre-season, the London-born ace has warmed the bench for all [three Premier League](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/conor-coventry/leistungsdaten/spieler/419025)fixtures this term.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Whilst staying at the London Stadium and learning off the likes of [Declan Rice, Tomas Soucek and Mark Noble](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) would be quite the grounding, there is no substitute for actual regular game time.

This will be the second loan spell of Coventry’s young career having made [seven appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/conor-coventry/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/419025/verein/1198) for Lincoln City during the 2019/20 season.

Valued at £180,000 and under contract until 2023 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/conor-coventry/marktwertverlauf/spieler/419025)), it remains distinctly possible Coventry could become a success in East London.

One to watch both today and for the remainder of the campaign should it come to pass.
