# Virals: Celtic ‘exploring’ loan deal for West Ham youngster Harrison Ashby

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/08/31/virals-west-ham-reportedly-close-to-signing-alex-kral-on-loan/) youngster Harrison Ashby looks to be on the verge of joining [Celtic](https://readceltic.com/2021/08/31/virals-celtic-target-troy-deeney-spotted-in-glasgow/) on a season-long loan deal.

The 19-year-old Scotland youth international looks set to head north of the border for the 2021/22 campaign having [featured prominently](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/harrison-ashby/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/559130) for the Irons’ youth sides.

According to sports reporter [Christopher Dodds](https://twitter.com/chrissydodds_/status/1432455023158571010?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1432455023158571010%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fvideocelts.com%2F2021%2F08%2Fblogs%2Flatest-news%2Fceltic-strongly-linked-with-harrison-ashby%2F) on Twitter last night, the Scottish Premiership giants are ‘exploring’ a move for the versatile defender.

That stance was then backed up by reliable Hammers’ insider [ExWHUemployee on Patreon](https://www.patreon.com/posts/transfer-update-55539735) as West Ham take full part in the deadline day drama.

Ashby made a first-team debut in the Carabao Cup clash with Charlton in 2020 before playing [69 minutes against Hull City](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/harrison-ashby/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/559130/verein/379) in the second round of the same competition.

Predominantly a right-back, it comes as no surprise that the club would allow the [Scotland Under 21 ace](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/harrison-ashby/nationalmannschaft/spieler/559130/verein_id/16868) to leave on loan this season.

David Moyes currently boasts [Vladimir Coufal and Ben Johnson](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) as fit and available options, two players well ahead of Ashby in the current pecking order.

Therefore, gaining important senior experience at a high level makes perfect sense for all parties.
