# Virals: West Ham bid for Gaetan Laborde ‘expected Imminently’

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/08/26/virals-journalist-performs-rapid-u-turn-as-kurt-zouma-deal-complicates/) are reportedly lining up a bid for Montpellier striker [Gaetan Laborde](https://readwestham.com/2021/08/23/virals-west-ham-moving-forward-in-gaetan-laborde-pursuit/) before the transfer window closes.

Irons’ boss David Moyes will be hoping to add an attacking option to the squad in support of new [club-record top-flight goalscorer](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/august/23-august/michail-antonio-goalscoring-record-setting-and-dirty-dancing) Michail Antonio.

Linked with a move for Larborde since the [departure of Sebastien Haller](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/jan/08/west-ham-sell-sebastien-haller-to-ajax-at-25m-loss), the Hammers may finally be about to land their man some eight months later.

That’s according to journalist [J Montanelli](https://twitter.com/JMontanelliLNDN/status/1430491747952611336) on Twitter, who claims that the club are readying an offer for the 27-year-old.

Laborde has made an impressive start to the 2021/22 Ligue 1 campaign, [scoring twice](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/140051/Show/Ga%C3%ABtan-Laborde) in the opening three fixtures from a right-wing position.

Despite previously being predominantly a central striker, the Frenchman has earned an average [Sofascore rating of 7.07](https://www.sofascore.com/player/gaetan-laborde/149730) from a wider position during the early weeks.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Signing an additional attacking option prior to [Tuesday’s deadline](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12257542/summer-transfer-window-2021-when-does-it-open-news-dates-and-deadline-day) is a must for West Ham.

Although talismanic frontman Michail Antonio has made a remarkable start to the new Premier League season, the 31-year-old has a [history of breaking down mid-season](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-fc-news-michail-antonio-pablo-fornals-david-moyes-b900109.html) and overuse would only put further pressure on the ace.

Laborde’s newfound versatility would be beneficial to Moyes’ [squad](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad), allowing the Frenchman to dovetail with not only Antonio but also Said Benrahma, Pablo Fornals and Jarrod Bowen.

Montpellier are now [reportedly](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/jan/19/west-ham-fail-with-offer-for-montpellier-striker-gaetan-laborde) asking for around €20million (£16million), a fee the Hammers should be willing to part with for an essential option.
