# Virals: Journalist performs rapid U-turn as Kurt Zouma deal complicates

Confusion reigned supreme on Tuesday night as conflicting reports claimed [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/08/25/alex-crook-claims-kurt-zouma-now-very-close-to-west-ham-move/) were both close to completing a move for Chelsea ace [Kurt Zouma](https://readwestham.com/2021/08/25/alex-crook-claims-kurt-zouma-now-very-close-to-west-ham-move/) and out of the race altogether.

The Hammers have already [seen one deal collapse](https://www.90min.com/posts/west-ham-transfer-news-nikola-milenkovic-kurt-zouma-exclusive) at the final hurdle when attempting to land Fiorentina centre-back Nikola Mileknovic earlier this summer.

It seemed as though the deal for Zouma could be following down the same path as [reports](https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2021/kurt-zouma-move-from-chelsea-to-west-ham-is-off/) emerged suggesting the move for the 26-year-old had broken down entirely.

Journalist for The Telegraph, Jason Burt, claimed on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/JBurtTelegraph/status/1430618801998028806) that the deal was ‘in danger of collapse’ before performing a rapid U-turn.

> Twitter: Should have waited before tweeting… just as I sent that was told deal could be back ON after all! Stand down.. https://t.co/LhQMPoP4lH (@JBurtTelegraph)

Burt wasn’t the only one on social media to make the claim as [GFFN](https://twitter.com/GFFN/status/1430607868491976711?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1430608190551494660%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es2_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.hammers.news%2Ftransfer-news%2Fwest-hams-kurt-zouma-move-could-now-be-back-on-as-respected-journalist-performs-u-turn-after-new-information%2F) also cited [Telefoot1](https://twitter.com/telefoot1) in claiming the Irons may be about to miss out once again due to ‘one aspect’ of the contract.

The deal in place is a [reported](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-kurt-zouma-chelsea-fc-jules-kounde-transfer-news-b952233.html) £25million transfer that would see the [eight-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kurt-zouma/nationalmannschaft/spieler/157509/verein_id/3377) ace end a [seven-year spell](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kurt-zouma/transfers/spieler/157509) in west London.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £28.8million and under contract until 2023 at Stamford Bridge ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kurt-zouma/marktwertverlauf/spieler/157509)), the mooed fee for a player with an [abundance of top-flight pedigree](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kurt-zouma/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/157509) would make for smart business.

David Moyes certainly needs an additional defensive option having allowed Fabian Balbuena and Frederik Alves to [leave the London Stadium](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/west-ham-united/transfers/verein/379) this summer.

Those decisions left the Scot with just [Craig Dawson, Issa Diop and Angelo Ogbonna](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) to choose from.

With just [five full days remaining](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12257542/summer-transfer-window-2021-when-does-it-open-news-dates-and-deadline-day) in the transfer window, Hammers everywhere will be hoping this is a deal that remains very much on the table.
