# Virals: West Ham ‘turn down’ chance to sign Odsonne Edouard

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/08/25/virals-fabrizio-romano-makes-kurt-zouma-timeframe-claim/) have reportedly rejected the chance to sign Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard during the ongoing transfer window.

Despite much [speculation](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/odsonne-edouard-transfer-aston-villa-20645942), the 23-year-old remains a Hoops player as the market enters the final six days.

[Linked](https://www.givemesport.com/1725890-celtic-transfer-news-update-on-premier-leaguelinked-odsonne-edouard) with a move to the Irons, Wolves, Leicester City and Crystal Palace throughout the summer, Edouard has made a bright start to the new season north of the border.

According to a report from [The Express](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1481006/Taylors-Tuesday-Transfers-News-Wolves-Adama-Traore-West-Ham-latest-gossip), as cited by [Daily Record Sport](https://twitter.com/Record_Sport/status/1430277093003235328) on Twitter, the Hammers knocked back the chance to sign the Frenchman.

The report claims that the club have also refused options on Alassane Plea, Tammy Abraham and [Luuk de Jong](https://readwestham.com/2021/08/20/virals-west-ham-consider-luuk-de-jong-in-striker-search/) recently – opting instead to show faith in new top-flight record goalscorer, Michail Antonio.

Edouard, a [prolific goal-getter](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/odsonne-edouard/nationalmannschaft/spieler/344152/verein_id/9323) for France at Under 21 level, has [scored twice and registered one assist](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/odsonne-edouard/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/344152) in the opening three Scottish Premiership games this season.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Signing a striker shouldn’t be viewed upon as a lack of faith in Antonio – far from it.

Bringing in an option to support, supplement and ultimately compete with the 31-year-old would allow David Moyes to rest his [in-form frontman](https://www.sofascore.com/player/michail-antonio/47772) for the biggest occasions.

As things stand currently, Moyes has no choice but to overload Antonio with minutes – something that has led to [injury issues](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/michail-antonio/verletzungen/spieler/104124) in seasons gone by.

Valued at £15.3million and in the final 12 months of a deal at Celtic Park ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/odsonne-edouard/nationalmannschaft/spieler/344152/verein_id/9323)), perhaps the Hammers hierarchy should have rethink before next Tuesday’s deadline.
