# Jim White makes £45million West Ham transfer budget claim

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/08/24/stuart-pearce-delighted-with-sensational-atmosphere-at-the-london-stadium/) are currently riding the crest of a wave following a 4-1 victory over recent top-four contenders Leicester City on Monday night.

The win in front of a packed London Stadium crowd took the Hammers to the [top of the Premier League](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) after two games having scored eight goals in two weeks.

This remarkable early season form backs up a sixth-place finish in 2020/21 when David Moyes’ side [threatened to break into the top four](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/apr/23/west-hams-push-for-top-four-is-what-football-is-all-about-a-chance-to-dream) for much of the campaign.

However, with Europa League football on the horizon to run alongside a [packed domestic schedule](https://www.whufc.com/fixtures/first-team/fixtures-and-results), there is concern that more needs to be done in order to ensure Moyes has a squad fit to cope with the rigours ahead.

As the transfer window enters its final week, so far the Irons have only managed to [sign goalkeeper Alphonse Areola](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/july/29-july/west-ham-united-sign-world-cup-winning-goalkeeper-alphonse-areola) on a season-long loan deal from Paris Saint-Germain.

[TalkSPORT](https://talksport.com/radio/listen-again/1629795600/) host Jim White had some interesting revelations for the Hammers faithful at the start of his show, as cited on Twitter by [Follow @TalkinWestHam](https://twitter.com/TalkinWestHam3/status/1430141598566846467).

White said: “This is where West Ham are at right now. Between £40-45 million is available to spend between now and the end of the transfer window. They did try for Tammy Abraham – he was too expensive. A fee of £35million but a small matter of £160,000 per week. What about Kurt Zouma? They have been talking, a deal is in place between the two clubs of around £30million but the personal terms and wage is a stumbling block. There is a plan B for a defender and everything is set for that to happen.”

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Few would’ve seen that coming.

Whilst all matters West Ham on-field are currently at a [20-year high](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/may/23-may/david-moyes-im-so-proud-set-premier-league-points-record-and-lead), there is no doubt some animosity remains elsewhere at the club between fans and hierarchy.

The fact remains [squad](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) additions are needed if Moyes is going to replicate or surpass last seasons exploits – with a defender and an additional striker as a bare minimum.

As things stand, Kurt Zouma and [Gaetan Laborde](https://readwestham.com/2021/08/23/virals-west-ham-moving-forward-in-gaetan-laborde-pursuit/) are the two most prominently linked players – although the likes of Nat Phillips and Nayef Aguerd could be the aforementioned ‘plan B’.

If White is correct in his assurances, Hammers fans can relish a busy [final week](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12257542/summer-transfer-window-2021-when-does-it-open-news-dates-and-deadline-day) of the transfer window.
