# Gary Neville lauds ‘absolutely brilliant’ Michail Antonio display

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has been lauding [West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/08/23/virals-west-ham-moving-forward-in-gaetan-laborde-pursuit/) ace, [Michail Antonio](https://readwestham.com/2021/08/24/virals-record-breaker-michail-antonio-takes-over-social-media/).

The 31-year-old was in fine form on Monday night as the Hammers completed a resounding [4-1 victory](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/august/24-august/extended-highlights-west-ham-united-4-1-leicester-city) over Leicester City at the London Stadium.

Antonio is enjoying halcyon days as an Iron in recent times and last night became the [clubs leading top-flight goalscorer](https://www.premierleague.com/clubs/25/West-Ham-United/stats).

Speaking on [Sky Sports MNF](https://www.skysports.com/), Neville was full of praise for the soon to be Jamaica international.

> We’ve talked about single strikers. Antonio was absolutely brilliant, occupies defenders, nightmare to play against, runs in behind. He’s a goal threat and his game has become more polished. Years ago, I never thought for one second he was going to end up being the presence that he is now in the Premier League.

The London-born ace reached [49 Premier League goals](https://www.premierleague.com/players/9595/Michail-Antonio/stats) for West Ham from 161 appearances with a brace as part of an outstanding 9.50 rated display ([Sofascore](https://www.sofascore.com/player/michail-antonio/47772)).

Antonio now has [three goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/michail-antonio/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/104124) in the opening two league outings this season – backing up a 10 goal campaign in 2020/21.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

From versatile extraordinaire to clinical frontman, the £10.8million valued star ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/michail-antonio/marktwertverlauf/spieler/104124)) has certainly been a revelation in east London.

Albeit the [need for additional support](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) is clear for all to see, a fit and firing Antonio is a joy to behold and must remain first-choice when available.
