# Virals: West Ham see £15million bid for Duje Caleta-Car rejected

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/08/23/virals-west-ham-find-verbal-agreement-for-kurt-zouma-transfer/) have reportedly had a bid rejected for Marseille central defender [Duje Caleta-Car](https://readwestham.com/2021/06/14/virals-west-ham-preparing-for-imminent-duje-caleta-car-bid/).

Linked with a move to east London previously, the Hammers are still on the lookout for an additional defender following the departure of [Fabian Balbuena and Frederik Alves](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/west-ham-united/transfers/verein/379) this summer.

Irons’ boss David Moyes has recently [admitted](https://www.football.london/west-ham-united-fc/news/david-moyes-west-ham-transfers-21317714) that the position is of priority before the end of the month and speculation over the personnel has been rife.

According to journalist [J Montanelli](https://twitter.com/JMontanelliLNDN/status/1429191184644247552) on Twitter, West Ham have made an offer of £15million plus add-ons for the 24-year-old Caleta-Car.

Capped on [16 occasions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/duje-caleta-car/profil/spieler/238266) by Croatia at senior level, Liverpool were [heavily linked](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11669/12220127/duje-caleta-car-marseille-defender-reveals-he-almost-joined-liverpool-in-january-transfer-window) with a move for the Marseille man in January.

Last season, Caleta-Car [scored twice and registered one assist](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/duje-caleta-car/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/238266) in 33 Ligue 1 appearances.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £22.5million and under contract until 2023 in France ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/duje-caleta-car/marktwertverlauf/spieler/238266)), it’s perhaps of little surprise that the initial bid has been rejected at the mooted figures.

[Prominent aerially](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/251134/Show/Duje-Caleta-Car), the Croatian when back to fitness would push for a starting role in David Moyes’ side alongside Issa Diop, Craig Dawson or Angelo Ogbonna.
