# Virals: West Ham find ‘verbal agreement’ for Kurt Zouma transfer

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/08/23/virals-west-ham-rocked-as-declan-rice-makes-transfer-admission/) have reportedly found a ‘verbal agreement’ with Chelsea for the transfer of central defender [Kurt Zouma](https://readwestham.com/2021/08/19/virals-kurt-zouma-tempted-by-move-to-west-ham-this-summer/) this summer.

The Hammers are in desperate need of additional defensive options as the [transfer window draws towards a close](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12257542/summer-transfer-window-2021-when-does-it-open-news-dates-and-deadline-day) in the next eight days.

Zouma has been [linked](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-kurt-zouma-transfer-chelsea-fc-b950964.html) with a switch across London for a number of weeks and could now be closer than ever to joining David Moyes’ side.

That’s according to a report from [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/2783367/2021/08/23/ornstein-palace-want-arsenals-nketiah-for-10m-personal-terms-hold-up-west-hams-zouma-move-ward-prowses-pay-record/?source=emp_shared_article), as cited by [David Ornstein](https://twitter.com/David_Ornstein/status/1429701218935492612) on Twitter, claiming the two clubs are set on a transfer fee.

The report claims that personal terms remain a ‘sticking point’ in negotiations as the 26-year-old Frenchman seeks to earn a [‘significant salary increase’](https://salarysport.com/football/player/kurt-zouma/) following the move.

Zouma, who is [yet to feature](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kurt-zouma/leistungsdaten/spieler/157509) for the Blues in the Premier League this season amidst transfer speculation, would prefer to stay in London, with Tottenham also [reportedly](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11675/12383869/transfer-news-chelsea-defender-kurt-zouma-wanted-by-tottenham) interested.

Last season the [eight-times capped](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kurt-zouma/nationalmannschaft/spieler/157509/verein_id/3377) ace made [36 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kurt-zouma/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/157509) across all competitions and scored five league goals.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Valued at £28.8million and under contract until 2023 at Stamford Bridge ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/kurt-zouma/marktwertverlauf/spieler/157509)), the mooted £25million fee would represent shrewd value for the Hammers.

Dominant in the air and adept at reading play, Zouma possesses all the [attributes](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/106086/Show/Kurt-Zouma) to succeed under Moyes.

Currently, the Irons’ boss only has [Craig Dawson, Issa Diop and Angelo Ogbonna](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) to choose from against Leicester City tonight – meaning an addition is essential before the deadline passes.
