# David Moyes admits there are ‘no guarantees’ over transfers

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/08/20/virals-west-ham-consider-luuk-de-jong-in-striker-search/) manager [David Moyes](https://readwestham.com/2021/08/16/virals-david-moyes-convinced-west-ham-will-sign-a-defender-this-summer/) has opened up about the possibility of incoming transfers in the final days of the summer window.

The Irons had expected to be active having [added Europa League football](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/may/23-may/west-ham-united-qualify-uefa-europa-league-final-day-win-over#:~:text=May%2018%3A13-,West%20Ham%20United%20qualify%20for%20UEFA%20Europa,final%2Dday%20win%20over%20Southampton&text=A%20first%2Dhalf%20brace%20from,for%20the%20UEFA%20Europa%20League.) to the schedule for the 2021/22 season.

However, only Alphonse Areola has [arrived on a loan deal](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/west-ham-united/transfers/verein/379) from Paris Saint-Germain, whilst Felipe Anderson, Fabian Balbuena and Frederik Alves have all left the club in some guise.

Speaking during a [pre-match press conference](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/august/20-august/live-david-moyes-pre-leicester-city-press-conference) ahead of the meeting with Leicester City on Monday, Moyes has admitted signings are wanted but offer ‘no guarantees’, as cited by [West Ham Fan Zone](https://twitter.com/WHUFCFZ/status/1428839373638934530) on Twitter.

> I hope to do some more business. We’ve been trying hard and we’re trying to add to a good group of players and give ourselves some more options at different times. We know we’ve got a challenging season ahead of us, but an exciting one. In this business, there are no guarantees.

Moyes’ side made a positive start to the Premier League campaign last weekend with a [4-2 away victory](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/august/18-august/behind-scenes-newcastle-united-2-4-west-ham-united) against Newcastle United.

### READ WEST HAM VERDICT

Surely there is no chance the club goes into a [full season](https://www.whufc.com/fixtures/first-team/fixtures-and-results) without adequate striker and central defensive cover.

As things stand, Moyes only has Michail Antonio as a [senior frontman](https://www.whufc.com/teams/first-team/squad) and Craig Dawson, Issa Diop and a recently injured Angelo Obgonna as centre-backs.

Three of the aforementioned quartet are over 30 and Antonio [missed 13 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/michail-antonio/verletzungen/spieler/104124) last term due to injuries.

At the very least one player for each position is required before the [clock ticks past 11:00pm](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12257542/summer-transfer-window-2021-when-does-it-open-news-dates-and-deadline-day) on August 31.
