# Virals: West Ham ‘consider’ Luuk de Jong in striker search

[West Ham](https://readwestham.com/2021/08/20/paddy-kenny-backs-kortney-hause-to-become-superstar-at-west-ham/) are reportedly considering a move for Sevilla striker [Luuk de Jong](https://readcrystalpalace.com/2017/08/07/crystal-palace-interested-luuk-de-jong/) this summer.

The Hammers are desperately seeking a forward before the [window closes on August 31](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12257542/summer-transfer-window-2021-when-does-it-open-news-dates-and-deadline-day) and could be running out of viable options.

Currently, David Moyes only has an [injury-prone Michail Antonio](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/michail-antonio/verletzungen/spieler/104124) at his disposal as the Irons prepare for a season containing Europa League football.

According to a report from [90min](https://www.90min.com/posts/west-ham-transfer-news-luuk-de-jong-wolves-rafa-mir), as cited by [Toby Cudworth](https://twitter.com/Toby_Cudworth/status/1428351681503186947) on Twitter, West Ham could turn to the 30-year-old.

So far this window the Hammers have only managed to [add Alphonse Areola](https://www.whufc.com/news/articles/2021/july/29-july/west-ham-united-sign-world-cup-winning-goalkeeper-alphonse-areola) to the first team squad, although Moyes had admitted a desire to land a central defender as well as an attacker.

Last season the [38-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/luuk-de-jong/nationalmannschaft/spieler/72522/verein_id/3379) Dutch ace [scored nine goals and registered one assist](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/luuk-de-jong/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/72522) in 48 appearances across all competitions.

Valued at £9million and under contract in Spain until 2023 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/luuk-de-jong/marktwertverlauf/spieler/72522)), De Jong could become available following the arrival of Wolves frontman Rafa Mir in Seville.

Once a man who netted a remarkable [28 Eredivisie league goals and added eight assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/luuk-de-jong/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/72522/plus/0/saison/2018/wettbewerb/NL1/verein/383) in just 34 outings – it’s perhaps fair to say the Dutchman’s career has flattered to deceive ever since.

Despite failing to score in [12 appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/luuk-de-jong/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/72522) for Newcastle United on a previous jaunt in England, West Ham would likely rather have the option than not before the end of the window.
